Our Rock Club is now NICAS!

High Sports Rock Club youth climbing programme was one of the first syllabuses in the country to coach young climbers through progressive levels of climbing skills. We pride ourselves on offering children from age 7 through to teens a fantastic experience in a regular club setting. We've become aware in the run up to climbing appearing in the Olympics for the first time in 2020 of the need to align ourselves with a nationally recognised climbing scheme to give the kids we coach the best opportunities.

With this in mind we have introduced The National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS)  - all of our existing clubs have moved over to the scheme bringing High Sports walls in line with many of the leading climbing walls in the country. We are very proud to be joining them in delivering all levels of NICAS.

NICAS has been developed by the Association of British Climbing Walls, leading coaching experts & some of the best youth climbing coaches in the UK and offers a fully comprehensive development pathway from beginner to national competition level. NICAS established itself over 10 years and currently has over 120,000 candidates in approximately 240 climbing centres and is administered by the Association of British Climbing Walls Training Trust. The scheme is recognised by the British Mountaineering Council and Sport England as an important youth participation pathway for young climbers.

Unlike our in-house scheme, NICAS qualifications are recognised in all climbing walls that are registered with the award allowing your children to take their qualifications with them wherever they may climb in the future.

Our aim was to make this transition as easy as possible for you -  no need for you to do anything - Bookings stay the same, as does the cost and we have ensured your child's existing skills log was transferred. NICAS sessions will operate in the exact same manner as your current Rock Club session. The only difference will be the syllabus taught.

We anticipate that nearly all climbers will continue on their current level under NICAS as the two schemes are very similar however there may be a technicality that means some children may move either up or down a level, should this be the case we will discuss this directly with you at the centre and explain the reasoning why.

NICAS sessions will continue on our existing pricing scheme. There is however a requirement to purchase a log book which is priced at £7.50 and provides a permanent record for candidates to keep. Please note that books will be kept at the centre between sessions unless you expressly wish for your child to keep theirs – any replacement books will be subject to the same fee of £7.50 per replacement required.

We hope that you are as excited about this development as we and all of our coaching team are however if you have any questions please do not hesitate to talk to our centre teams. You can also find all the information on the NICAS website www.nicas.co.uk

If you have any questions please speak to the onsite team and keep an eye on our social media and your email inbox for further updates!
