Nicas.
Our NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) clubs are structured, weekly lessons for ages 7+ aimed at developing climbers’ skills & techniques in a fun, social & safe environment.
The best athletes have to start somewhere right? NICAS is THAT place for climbers!
We are a '“NICAS Climb Primary Centre” which allows us to offer the entire syllabus from beginners right through to those looking to compete at the highest level. If competing is not the goal, no problem - enrolling on the scheme will allow climbers to gain the skills needed to enjoy a lifetime of climbing and make great friends along the way.
Pricing
Our NICAS sessions are £76 per month and billed at the start of each month on a recurring membership. The clubs run all the way through the year, even in the Summer months. We have found this consistency really helps with the kids’ progression in the sport.
Levels
Level 1 & 2 focus on developing beginners into competent climbers with a focus on safety, rules and basic movement.
Level 3 takes those skills and builds on them by exposing candidates to advanced techniques as well as exploring the history and ethics of climbing. By passing level 3 candidates will have met the standard equivalent to a pass at GCSE level.
Upon reaching Level 4, climbers will be introduced to ‘Lead Climbing’ and will learn everything from clipping to rope management and advanced belaying techniques. A pass at level 4 is equivalent to an A Level pass.
If you would like to discuss our 14yrs+ Teen RockUp session please call us on 01273 558447, but please be aware that this session is not for novices, and climbers must be able to pass a safety test to join those sessions.
Parents and Siblings
It’s not just the kids that get all the fun! As a parent to a child in a kids club you can receive a highly discounted climbing membership. For just £35 a month (which is a 50% discount on our standard membership) you can get unlimited climbing with all the benefits of our usual monthly membership. There is also a sibling membership option for those not in a club but still wanting to climb, which is £25 per person.
Don’t know how to climb? No problem. We have a variety of courses to suite what you’re looking for. If you want a quick start we highly recommend taking our half hour Auto Belay Induction which covers both our bouldering area and the auto belays. After completing this course you can also supervise up to two children climbing in these areas. If you’re looking for rope climbing, our Beginners Course is the best place to start. Check out all the possible options below.
FAQs
-
Yes, all of our kids clubs will run every week of the year, with the exception of when the centre is closed (Christmas opening times, special events etc.). If we are unable to run a session you will be credited for that session.
-
We have priced our kids clubs so that you only pay for 4 sessions in a month, regardless of how many weeks there are in that month. This means over the year you get a minimum of 4 free sessions. We have built this in to our pricing on the understanding that there may be some weeks that you are unable to make the club but this way you have some flexibility.
Alternatively, if you are going away for a long time, you can just cancel your membership. However, we are unable to guarantee a space will be available when you return but will always do our best to accommodate.
-
You can cancel at any point providing you give us at least 2 weeks notice before the next billing date (the 1st of each month). If you cancel, your space will then be open for someone else to book as sadly we cannot hold spaces due to restricted numbers. To cancel please email brighton@high-sports.co.uk

We understand that sometimes things get in the way and it may not be possible to attend every session. We have therefore factored this in to our pricing and over the whole year you only pay for 48 sessions even though we run them every week of the year. This means that you technically get 4 free sessions over the year.
-
In the past we have been quite relaxed about offering credits for sessions that have been missed. Our costs sadly do not change whether a child is on session or not and any refund or credit issued reduces our ability to meet that cost. We have however factored in a buffer in our pricing that means you get a minimum of 4 sessions free due to the way that our pricing is calculated.
We will however do what we can in exceptional circumstances such as serious injury (broken bones etc.).
-
Only in exceptional circumstance will we allow this. This is to ensure that the group dynamics are as consistent as possible to help with the development of all of the children in the group. This will also only be possible if we have space on the other course, which is unlikely due to how popular the clubs are.
-
Providing we have space then this is not a problem to change days/clubs. However, please be aware that due to the popularity there is limited availability and your old slot will most likely be taken quickly.
-
Due to the limited number of spaces on our kids clubs, unfortunately we are unable to hold spaces for those who are going away for long periods of time and not paying.
-
Yes! We have a bolt on option that is just £12 for under 8s and £13 for over 8s. This means you can bring them in as much as you want and supervise them yourself outside of club times. (Access to the centre outside of club times is subject to our usual entry requirements such as passing safety test etc.).
-
Yes this is not a problem, payment will need to be made at the start of each month to our reception team.
-
Yes! With our new pricing structure, we also offer a parents membership at a heavily discounted rate of just £35 per month, which is a 50% discount on our standard membership. This will give you all the benefits of our normal monthly membership.
We also have a sibling membership for those not on a club but would still like to climb. This is just £25 per person.
(Access to the centre outside of club times is subject to our usual entry requirements such as passing safety test etc.).
-
When our clubs are not at capacity, we may allow occasional single session bookings for kids that have attended the club in the past. However, this will only be bookable on a week by week occurrence and spaces will be limited due to the popularity of our clubs.
