Bouldering
Bouldering is a great way to get started in climbing and a great sport in it’s own right!
What is Bouldering?
Bouldering is climbing without a rope or harness, using crash mats to help protect you if you fall. Walls will go up to a maximum height of 4.5 m to help prevent injury. In most climbing centres, like High Sports and Volume 1, the route (problem) you follow will be indicated by one colour of climbing holds. Place both hands on the top hold and you’ve completed (or sent) the climb! The routes vary in difficulty which are indicated by the grade. A small tag on each climb will show you where to start and it’s difficulty level. With our grading system, the more lines or sides in the shape, the harder the climb!
How to get started
One of the great things about bouldering is that you don’t need any previous experience or special equipment to get started (and you can use our hire shoes!). However, we also have plenty of options if you are looking for a little more guidance before you begin.
Pick the option that best suites you below to get started.

Auto Belay Induction
Our Auto Belay Induction covers both an introduction to Bouldering and our Auto Belays within a half hour session.
Auto Belays are devices at the top of the wall that you can clip in to and they will catch you if you fall and lower you to the ground.
They’re a great way to experience the full height of our walls independently without the need for a climbing partner.
